I am not the one you want to blame For things that should have changed but stayed the same And when your ignorance is gone, and you have the strength to carry on Then we’ll have to go our separate ways Things have been all right for me these days The years have past but things have stayed the same I’m still waiting at your door, I may never know what for But something tells me I should sit and wait So I’ll sit my self down gently and rest my back into a chair And think about the man that I would like to be It’s as someone who was with me played the part but was never there As I close my eyes into the slowly setting sun And that’s just not the man I’m to become So I sit myself down gently and rest my back into a chair And think about the man that I have now become All the years I’ve put be hind me and the small mileage I’ve got left Flash before my eyes as I drift off to sleep And dream about the man I’ll never be As I look back through my life I question what have I done right I’m looking at the past through a looking glass As I look back through my life As I look back through my life All the pictures come to life Illuminated on the screen again As I look back through my life All the pain that’s come to pass All the pain that’s here and lasts Am I stronger now because of it? Let me look back through my life All the joy reigned down on me Two young boys, a family I wish them better days than I have seen As I look back through my life As I look back through my life I question what have I done right I am not the man I was, or planned And that’s quite all right with me

Good Love 04:11
GOOD LOVE What you hold there in your hand Is the fragment of a moment Compressed by time and space into a perfect gem You see I left it there with you To span the great divide Between you and me And your love and all your pride Well you’re cordially invited to this parting little thought That all your words can’t stop the setting sun Because when the night surrounds you It’s not the light you seek It’s knowing that I’m hiding in the dark Good love is hard to find Good love takes work and time But when you know the feeling’s right Good love is what you’ll find Well this love of yours and mine It has stood the test of time And don’t worry dear I’ll be right here down the line Good love will lead us on Through the turning of the days Through the happiness and the dust and the decay We’ll I cordially invite you to this parting little thought That all your words can’t stop the setting sun Because when the night surrounds you It’s not the light you seek It’s knowing that I’m hiding in the dark Well sometimes she may speak too softly or maybe not at all Or he may leave his socks out on the floor But these little things don’t matter within a grander scheme It’s the love we have together and the bigger things unseen Good love is hard to find Good love takes work and time But when you know the feeling’s right Good love is what you’ll find

So wipe your tears And take what you can This is the end of it all We’ve got nothing left When your money’s all gone And you can’t make your rent I’ve been sleeping in bathrooms and bars Just trying to cheat death Cause these times we are living are slowly killing My hopes and your dreams, as we silently scream Where’s the hope we were promised and dreams we deserve If we dismiss our past how will we ever learn? When you can’t hold a job Cause your industry’s dead They’re closing the factories down They gave you pennies instead Cause these times we are living are slowly killing My hopes and your dreams, as we silently scream Well my mind is made up and now you’re crying out As they take all your money and childhood house So I’ll pack up my bags I’m leaving today I’m starting a family now They can’t take that away Cause these times we are living are slowly killing My hopes and your dreams, as we silently scream Well my mind is made up and now you’re crying out As they take all your money and childhood house Cause these times we are living are slowly killing My hopes and your dreams, as we silently scream Where’s the hope we were promised and dreams we deserve If we dismiss our past how will we ever learn?

about

This album was born out of a love for analog recording and the honesty, the dirt, and the nostalgia that comes with it. Recorded on my dad's old reel-to-reel tape machine, The Man I’m Supposed to Be pays homage to my musical upbringing and love of music instilled in me by my family. It features two acoustic versions songs that are off our upcoming full-length record, The Times We are Living, and includes a track, “Good Love”, that is exclusive to this release. To learn more about the history and influence behind this album and the process that went into its production, please download our liner notes for this record, which include pictures and write-ups about how we went about making these recordings.

about

Portland Senator Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

"With a hint of Avett Brothers’ vocals and instrumentation with touches of Pearl Jam and The Decemberists, Portland Senator has created an honest and unique take on the indie folk-rock genre. The Philly locals have a hypnotizing air about them worthy of repeated listenings."
